Atlantic University Championship Information - 2012

Thank you to the PEICA and the Cornwall Curling Club for hosting the Atlantic University Championship in Cornwall, PEI from January 13-15, 2012.  Gayle Johnston, Board member for Curl Atlantic, will act as the Curl Atlantic liaison and will work with the Cornwall Curling Club to host this event.

The event will be a double knockout for both the men’s and women's side.  Both the A side and B side winners would then represent the Atlantic region at the CIS/CCA University Championships from March 14-18, 2012 in Welland, Ontario.  Please read the attached CIS/CCA document for planning purposes as well as the eligibility form that must be filled out and signed by your university at the time of registration.

Only one women's team and one men's team from each university will be able to put an entry into the AUC in January.  It is up to each university how you choose to select your successful teams.

Please note that the coaching requirements have changed this year at the CIS/CCA so we will adopt the same credentials.  The coach of the university team must be a minimum certified Competition Coach or Level 2 and each team must have a coach present.

Please forward this information to anyone you think may be interested in submitting a team into the championship.  Registration will be $200/team and will be due to Curl Atlantic by Tuesday, December 20th, 2011.

Practice ice will be held on the evening of Friday, January 13th and the competition will be held on Saturday, January 14th and Sunday, January 15th.  All games will be 10 ends with a break of five minutes after the fifth end of play.  Teams will be allotted two one-minute time outs and there will be a pre-game practice of 7 minutes after a one-minute slider cool down for each team.  A coin flip 30 minutes prior to each game will determine colour and first or second practice and a pre-game draw to the button will determine hammer.  Further details will be provided closer to the event.

Please mail your team registration and signed eligibility forms (found on pages 15 and 16 of the CIS/CCA guide) along with a cheque for $200 made out to Curl Atlantic by DECEMBER 20th.
