It is with sadness that we inform the curling community of Newfoundland and Labrador of the sudden passing of Roger Mabey. Roger was recovering from a serious medical challenge that occurred early in February. Roger’s family will be arriving in the province shortly and arrangements will be known later.
Roger was born into the famous "Hap" Mabey curling family of Moncton, New Brunswick in 1943. He represented Newfoundland/Labrador on the national curling stage 5 times from the 1970 Brier to the 1997 Seniors (including two times that he skipped in the Mixed). Roger, a left-handed curler and feared opponent with highly dependable draw weight, has been a frequent competitor in both the Bally Haly and the St. John's Curling Club Super Leagues. He is also known as a curling volunteer who contributed especially in the area of statistics for national competitions hosted in St. John's.
RIP Roger |
